Off we go

Well, yesterday was the day of departure from our summer home at N.E.T Campground in Vineland Ontario. This time of year there are only 4 people left in the park. The owner has graciously allowed us snowbirds to stay longer even though the water has been turned off. Our friends Bill & Cheryl will be leaving today.

People always get freaked out when they get close to the US border. I've heard the horror stories. However, our experiences with crossing have been nothing short of wonderful. We decided to leave earlier to avoid the long line ups and it worked. Waiting in line, one away from talking to the US border guy, Lulu decides to have a seizure. Shes had them before but not in the back seat waiting to cross the border. It didn't last long and by the time we got to talk to the guard all is well. Shes fine but I'm sure people watching us must of thought strange things. Five questions from the US guard along with a "have fun" and we were off into the sunset, or so to speak.

Even though the rig is bigger than the last one it pulls just as well. Precious (my truck) does just fine going up and down those hills. On the flats you can't tell the rig is even attached.

We have been down this same route many times, the only difference this time was the amount of police on the roads. One occasion worth mentioning was the police pulled over a van which had just flew by us earlier. The driver was out of the van on the roadside trying to walk. He was sooooo intoxicated he almost fell into oncoming traffic. Very scary.

After a few rest stops we got to our first destination Cross Creek Campground just north of Columbus, Ohio. I've blogged on this campground before so I won't bore you again. Setting up is always fun because you never know what few out of the cupboards during the trip. This time was no different. I opened the rig door and all I could smell was vinegar. Yes, the fridge doors flew open and a jar of pickles had spewed all over the kitchen floor along with half the freezer. Luckily, no damage was done. Finally, the new rig is christened!

So if that wasn't enough I plugged my surge protector into the shoreline and it made a terrible popping noise. The park maintenance man checked the lines and they were fine but my surge protector was fried. When we get to Nashville there's a Camping World beside the campground, I will get a new one there.

Tomorrow is another travel day so stay tuned for more adventurous tails.

Yes...we've done it again

If you read my previous post I ended with a stay tuned. Well here's what I'm talking about. If you know us you won't be surprised.

We went up north to pick up our rig. While I was talking to the guys (at the dealership) Susan was exploring. Oh, how she likes to explore. When I here those words "Rhon come take a look at the rig I found" I should know by now to turn and run the other way. Long story short we are now the proud owners of a brand new 2015 Bighorn 3750. No, it's not a toy hauler but instead a 42' front living room 5th wheel. Hear are some pictures courtesy of Heartland.

2 Slides on Passenger Side
Kitchen with Residential Full Size Fridge
Front Living Room With 55" TV & Fireplace
Recliner chairs with massage and heated seats
King Size Bed & Dyson Vacuum...Closet has washer dryer
Lots of  storage space & another TV
Bathroom
... so this is the type of rig that if you get sick of travelling you park it for six months and live in it. We are a long ways from that but just thinking ahead. Oh yes and as far as Precious (my truck) goes, she has no problem pulling it up and down hills or across country.

We are leaving Canada on Thursday 29 October so I will be writing about our adventures again this year. Here are some of things we are stopping to see... the Natchez Trace Parkway, Tupelo MS, Vicksburg MS, Vidalia LA, and then the Gulf Coast of Texas were we will spend most of the winter. I hope you enjoy my travels through my blog. Don't hesitate to drop a comment or two.

Renovations Galore

It seems that we just got home and now we are ready to go again. This summer has passed soooooo fast. Susan and I just shake our heads and comment on where has the time gone. Many things have been accomplished opting not to travel but stay home instead.

For those that don't know we live in a park model in the summer and a fifth wheel in the winter. The park model is in a campground so yes we camp (if that's what you call it) 24/7, 365 days of the year.

Winter Home
This summer was about renovating the park model. We bought it new 8 years ago and thought it needed to be brought into the 21st century. So ripping down, tearing apart, throwing out, along with new paint, floors, cabinets, sink, countertop, and much more was on the agenda.

Before we could start inside I had to do some electrical stuff outside. Oh how I hate electrical stuff. It wasn't to difficult thank goodness. Running some new coaxial cables plus relocating some electrical outlets. Easier done from the outside.
This took a couple days
The inside was oak trim with a taupe panel. We wanted something more modern and bright. We opted for white trim and very soft yellow walls.

The kitchen is what took most the time. Again we opted to carry the paint colours throughout white trim soft yellow walls. We added new upper and lower cabinets, new sink, new countertop, and new floor.

yes that's me doing a balancing act
...not my best side

Almost finished
Before I could put the lower cabinets in I had to rip out the old ones, lay the lament flooring, reroute some water lines, and redirect a propane line.
New lament flooring
The final push was on. In order to carry the lament flooring throughout the house we had to sleep in the kitchen for a few days. That was fun. Morning coffee has never been so close.
Lulu loved it
...she didn't want to get out of bed
Five months later we are done...for now. A few things have to wait until next summer. I just ran out of steam.

During all these renovations I took on a summer job. It started when a neighbour couldn't cut her lawn so I told her "don't worry I will look after it". Well, word got around and before I knew it one lawn lead to two, two lead to five, and the next thing I knew I was cutting 25 lawns every Thursday and Friday. If I didn't enjoy cutting lawns I wouldn't have done it. Through the whole summer and hundreds of cut lawns later I had only one client complaint...and that was from a guy who said I was making his lawn look too good. Now he says that he has to buy a new trailer to go along with the great looking lawn. I just laughed and said thanks.

We are now down to the last few weeks before leaving and it's time to get the rig (Cyclone toy hauler). We took it to the dealer ( a 4 hour drive north) in the spring for some warranty work. So a few weeks ago away we go. Upon inspection they had not completed a few minor things. While I stayed with the rig Susan went exploring. That is always dangerous. All I'm going to say right now is the Cylcone is still at the dealers and we are back home. Stay tuned.
